Overview: Dr. Amy Zacharias is a board-certified family medicine and lifestyle medicine physician who has practiced in primary care settings for over 21 years in the central Illinois area. She is also an assistant professor at the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria where she teaches medical students about family and lifestyle medicine. With a passion for plant-based cooking and educating others on the importance of nutrition and physical activity, Dr. Zacharias believes patients have the power to prevent and even reverse disease using a lifestyle medicine approach.
Training Institutions: Dr. Zacharias attended medical school at Loyola University, Stritch School of Medicine in Maywood, Illinois and completed her family medicine internship and residency at the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria, Methodist Medical Center in Peoria, Illinois. She received her Plant-Based Nutrition Certificate from the T. Colin Campbell Center for Nutrition Studies through eCornell and is a graduate of the Rouxbe’s Professional Plant-Based Certification Course.
Clinical Expertise: Dr. Zacharias specializes in athletic performance, weight management, metabolic syndrome, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, cancer prevention, nutrition, and women’s health.
My Philosophy: With a focus on the prevention and treatment of disease using lifestyle medicine, I feel empowered to truly help and heal patients. Lifestyle medicine has not only made me a better physician, but I now feel invigorated and excited to meet every patient and walk alongside them in their journey toward their best life.
Interests: Cooking, drawing, reading, outdoor activities, spending time with family and friends, watching my children play sports, and traveling the world.
